Eat Healthy While Traveling

Whether you’re taking a vacation, or traveling for work, it is possible to eat healthy while away from home.  According to Prevention magazine, staying healthy while traveling requires a little advance planning.  Here are some suggestions:

  • If traveling by airplane, slip healthy foods into your luggage, such as nuts and seeds, dried fruits, trail mix, energy bars, carrots and celery, an apple, packets of oatmeal and almonds or dark chocolate; at the airport pick up a healthy salad or sandwich and water
  • If going by bus, train or automobile, fill a small cooler with healthy snacks, including home-made sandwiches, fruit, raw veggies, nuts and seeds and water
  • Once at your destination, skip the chain restaurants and look for local cafes and eateries where you can enjoy healthy meals made from fresh, locally-grown foods; download a smartphone app to help you find healthy foods in the area you’re visiting, such as GoodFoodNearYou, VegOut, or HappyCow
  • Take time to exercise daily at local parks or trails
